The Romance Line Bonus

And Say Yes One More Time

A Bonus Epilogue for The Romance Line

Everly

“You did it!” I shout as Josie nails an outside leg hang at Upside Down and I capture it on camera. Kyla spots her and helps her drop back down to the floor.

I high-five my friend who’s become a little bit addicted to this form of dance, just like I am. Maeve is here too and so is Fable, and we’re all cheering on our naughty librarian.

“I’m only the last one of us to get it but that’s okay. At least I did it,” Josie says proudly.

“You go at your own pace,” Kyla says then turns to me. “And thank you again for all the extra classes and the raise.”

“Thank you for running this place,” I say since I’m a hands-off kind of owner. After class wraps up, I say goodbye to my friends and then head home. But not to the place I used to have in Russian Hill.

Home is a little farther away from the studio these days but I don’t mind the drive or the walk. I don’t mind because I live with Max now in his penthouse high above the city with a cat who thinks she owns the whole place, as well as the view of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Well, she is a cat.

Max isn’t home when I return but that’s what I expected. I shower and take my time getting dressed and ready because he told me he was taking me on a date today. It’s June now and hockey season is over, so we’re enjoying the off-season at a slower pace.

I’m about to leave to meet him, but I stop and look in the mirror first.

I’m wearing a sundress. It’s lavender—a good color for me, as my lovely friend Maeve once said. My hair is down and the straps of my lavender bralette peek out.

I draw a contented breath and leave.

Max waits in front of the building, leaning against the side of his car. When our eyes meet, he says, “Wow.”

Then he comes over and runs his hands over my shoulders and down my bare arms.

“Beautiful,” he says.

I fiddle with the buttons of his short-sleeve shirt. “You look pretty good yourself,” I tell him.

I get in his car and he drives us out of the city and into Wine Country to our favorite restaurant. Once we’re there, the owners give us the same table that we had when we came here last fall on our first ever secret date.

There is nothing secret about us now. We are out in the open. And I’m savoring the sunshine on my skin, the warm summer breeze, the wildflowers blooming on the hills, and the scent of lavender.

Most of all, I am savoring every single day.

We talk and we laugh, and in between courses Max tips his chin to me and says, “I have a question for you.”

“Hit me up.”

He rises, and in no time he drops down to one knee, reaches into his pocket, and takes out a velvet box. My heart climbs into my throat and my eyes widen.

“Everly Rosewood, you’re my soulmate, and I didn’t even believe in soulmates until I got to know you. And now I do. You are the one. And this probably won’t come as a surprise since you’ve been my future wife for some time now. But I want to ask you officially—will you marry me?”

Tears well in my eyes and fall down my cheeks as I say the word I’ve been saying to him all along.

“Yes.”
